What education did you have before you took the Visual Effects for Film and Television course?

Before coming to VFT program I had my bachelor of arts degree followed by a one year long course in 3D animation.  Right after 12th standard my aim was clear what I wanna do so without any delay I jumped into this field and started exploring the possible resources available in India. However, back in 2007-08 there weren't schools to provide knowledge of this field.

Tell us a bit about your experience at the college.

My experience at Seneca was amazing.  The college has a very good image and standing among the top colleges in the city. The computer labs and all other facilities are just on par and very promising. All the important equipment like camera, tripods, green screen room etc. are available for rent which is really helpful (don't need to pay extra for these) The assignments at Seneca are treated as actual production shots and that's the best part of this course. You get real deadlines to get your assignments done and in my opinion this is the best way to prepare yourself for real on floor job at production houses.

How do you use the education you got at Seneca in your job today?

The syllabus of VFT course has all the essential content which is important to cover before going to work in production houses. After completing VFT I was able to get six interview calls from top companies like Technicolor, Pixomondo, Rocket Science, Double Negative....and finally I was accepted by Rocket Science VFX as a compositor. This course prepared me very well that I was feeling very comfortable on my first day at work and people at work were very impressed that my basic foundation is very clear. Keep in mind this course is not the end of your learning because there is always room for the effects and creativity so you will always be learning.

This was Lalit’s demo reel when he graduated from the program in April 2018

What advice would you give potential students who are thinking of taking the course?

My advice for new students is....

* Have some prior knowledge related to this field before coming to VFT because it will help you to absorb all the advance knowledge during this course.

*Watch TV shows, movies and art work and imagine how it would have done,

* work ethic in this field is really important so just make sure you focus on your work.

*try to find where you wanna go after this course, for instance some wanna go in FX, some in compositing, some in animation. I remember some students were not even able to decide what to choose as a final goal even after having one month left to finish study. In my case I was very clear from day one that I will be going in compositing.

First requirement of this industry is passion. it's not just the skills always, you must have had a reason when you decided to work in this field. Keep that in mind always and keep your passion alive by being keen to learn new things everyday.
