What education did you have before you took the Visual Effects for Film and Television course?

FX Artist

I did not have any formal 3D or VFX education. I was a self- taught motion graphics and colour correction artist working as a self-employed professional in the advertising industry in Mumbai. I used to believe that going to film school or any VFX school to learn about the art of film making was a complete waste of money and that one could do it all by themselves if they wanted to. It turns out, I was completely wrong. This course was the best course I have ever spent my money on. If I could go back, I would do it again without even thinking for a second.

Tell us a bit about your experience at the college.

My experience at the college was really more than I could have asked for. All our teachers are well known senior industry professionals who work at major VFX studios. You can literally mail them your doubts or concerns any time of the day or night and get an instant reply. Whenever I have a conversation with random people in the industry, they always seem to know of or worked with most of the teachers. During the course, we were always shown interesting VFX shots from the most recent blockbuster movies or TV shows our teachers worked on and showed us how they did it. We also had access to professional film equipment like DSLRs, Ronins, a green screen room, Theta 360 camera etc in case we wanted to film our own shots. They will show you WAY more than what you will just see on the course curriculum. The industry upgrades every day and so does the course and the teachers.

How do you use the education you got at Seneca in your job today?

To be honest, I use techniques, tips and tricks shown in class almost every day on the shots I work on. The education I got from this course was extremely relevant and up to date. Apart from the quality education, the teachers also gave us access to their industry contacts which can be equally important to get a job. No one tells you that!

What advice would you give potential students who are thinking of taking the course?

If you are passionate about your work and want to learn about 3D and VFX. Go for it. Don't think about the money even for a second. You will get knowledge that will help you make way more than what will you spend. Please see this as an investment and not as an expense. I could not recommend it enough. I don't think I would have reached where I currently am without this course. It completely changed my career. It could do the same for you!
